Prevent Acne Today for a Clearer Tomorrow
Acne is a problem for many people, especially teenagers. There are plenty of various sources offering treatment and prevention of acne, but is there a surefire way to prevent acne? What are the best methods to really prevent acne?
Can You Prevent Acne?
The reality is that there is no guaranteed foolproof way to prevent acne. Acne is not primarily function of your hygiene or diet, although these things can contribute to the severity of your acne in some cases. Acne is primarily a function of your skin’s sebum production and the presence of acne causing bacteria. Keeping your skin free of dirt and excess dead skin cells can help, but it does not get to the heart of the acne problem.
How Can You Prevent Acne?
There is little you can do about your skin’s sebum production. Your sebaceous gland may become particularly active as a teenager and will usually diminish its production as you grow older. Eating greasy foods does not increase sebum production, and eating healthy foods, while this can be good for your skin in other ways, does not decrease sebum production. Therefore, to prevent acne, you should focus on killing acne causing bacteria. However, killing the acne causing bacteria that is currently found in your skin is only half the battle. To truly prevent acne, you need to take steps to make sure that acne causing bacteria does not return to cause more acne.
Preventing Acne by Killing Acne Causing Bacteria
One of the best methods for killing acne causing bacteria is the use of the right benzoyl peroxide solution. Benzoyl peroxide works by penetrating into clogged pores, unclogging those pores and exposing the acne causing bacteria to oxygen, killing it. This will help get rid of the acne you currently have, but to really prevent acne, you need to keep using benzoyl peroxide on your skin even when outbreaks are not occurring. Remember, an outbreak of acne is a long process. The acne has taken time to build before you see it. If you can knock it out before it breaks the skin, it will be like you don’t have acne at all.
Using Benzoyl Peroxide to Prevent Acne
Trying an over the counter benzoyl peroxide medication designed for topical application on existing acne is not what you need to prevent acne. What you need is a complete acne care system that uses products designed to continuously get benzoyl peroxide into your skin. You apply the lotions or creams as directed, usually twice daily. This will give the medication the opportunity to kill the acne causing bacteria before they start to build new pimples or other forms of acne. While some acne may get through, this is probably the best way to prevent most acne over the long term. If you find the right system and use it as directed consistently, over time you should see a significant improvement in your acne, and you may even find yourself to be virtually acne free.
