Ways to Get Acne Relief

If you suffer from mild to moderate acne, you are probably asking yourself two questions. What can I do to get some acne relief, and how quickly will you see acne relief. Fortunately, you have several options for acne relief, some of which can work rather quickly.

Acne Relief Options: Soap and Water

Hot water and standard soap without any added perfumes or colors is the basic treatment for acne relief, and in many people can actually be quite helpful. However, washing a pimple won’t simply wipe it away. It’s important to realize that it took some time for that pimple to come together and grow before it finally broke through the skin. Just as it took a while to appear, it can take a while to fade. Excessive washing in order to make a pimple go away faster is not a good idea. It will probably not significantly accelerate the healing and may cause skin to become dried out and irritated.

Acne Relief Options: Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is designed to accelerate the process of sloughing off dead skin cells. Since dead skin cells are a major component of acne, it can be very effective in getting rid of pimples fast. However, spot treatments of pimples is not really a plan for overall pimple relief, and salicylic acid presents an even greater danger of drying out the skin than over washing with soap and water.

Acne Relief Options: Benzoyl Peroxide (OTC)

The benzoyl peroxide solutions that you find in the grocery store or drug store to apply directly to a pimple can also work quickly. It can open up the pore where the pimple has formed and get rid of the acne causing products within. This can result in the pimple fading in a few days or less. As with other spot treatments, though, this will not do much about new acne forming, and the best kind of acne relief gets rid of the acne before it breaks the skin, or even prevents new acne from developing at all.

Acne Relief Options: Benzoyl Peroxide System

A complete benzoyl peroxide system with multiple products designed for use every day provides the best form of acne relief for many acne sufferers. These products are created to help the acne fighting action of benzoyl peroxide go deep into the skin of the whole face (or body, if you are suffering from body acne). This opens up pores and kills the acne causing bacteria inside so that acne does not form in the first place. Used as directed, you will usually apply these products twice a day. Unlike some of these other treatments, you may not see immediate results. But, as they say, anything worth having is worth waiting. Consistent use of an acne care system for several weeks can provide long lasting acne relief, and you may even find yourself virtually acne free after a long enough term of consistent use. Although it may not work right away, once it starts working, it should keep working, as opposed to spot treatments which will not really stop new acne outbreaks from occurring.
